What are some of the risks for Real Estate professionals?
Over a span of eight years, a total of 206 Real Estate Professionals were murdered and many others were raped, beaten or robbed while working, according to the Real Estate Safety Council. These statistics prompted the National Association of Realtors and the Real Estate Safety Council to encourage members to take safety precautions and learn self defense.
Real Estate Professionals are exposed to the following risk factors in addition to the basic risk factors that are inherent to every profession:
- Extensive contact with the public.
- Showing property, space, units, etc. alone.
- Working during evening hours.
- Conducting "open house" events.
- Transporting or riding with clients.
- Advertising and marketing with personal photographs and/or information.
